Independence Day: We are true Patriot

Couple of days back the nation celebrated 61st anniversary of freedom. Like others I too remembered the fateful day, but not in encouraging way. Because, I am in Delhi and all who reside in the metros know very well, how the particular day is celebrated. Independence Day for Delhi means a welcome break from daily affairs. Besides, for some section it is good opportunity to enjoy kite flying. Jama Masjid area of Old Delhi is famous kite flying on August 15. Okhla village is another area, where such activities are very common.

However, I was well seated at my residence in Abul Fazal Enclave, going through the Prime Minister’s speech on the television. Apart from the television programmes, nowhere it seemed that Delhiites have any special enthusiasm about the Independence Day. Suddenly I started to recall the Independence Day of Kishanganj district. Where every nook and corner of the district you can experience the real pleasure of the very day.

Special programmes are organized in schools, colleges, madarsas and other educational institutes, government offices, chowk and chawrahas (cross-roads) to celebrate the day. After the speeches and parades the sweets are distributed among people. In fact, people celebrate the day like a religious festival, with great pomp and grandeur.

NCC (National Cadet Corps), BSF and other police forces present their parade before the District Magistrate at the Ruidhasa Maidan. Large number of people from across the district gathers at the historic ground. Independence Day commemorates with the colorful cultural programmes at the Town hall of Kishanganj. Students from various schools of Kishanganj present the cultural programmes and they are being awarded by the DM as well.

Such thoughts really made me sad and refreshed my old memories. In fact, I had been the part of such activities during my school going days. Now I am in Delhi to pull my life, but here I always miss Independence Day celebration and the enthusiasm for this particular day. On the whole, you can say despite being neglected by the government, we people have kept alive the spirit of true patriotism.
