Bihar – A Charming State of India

Bihar, pronounced as ‘Vihara’ in the past that literally means Garden is an Indian state in the north-eastern part of India. Recently the state of Bihar has drawn international attention due to sliding win of Nitish Kumar led NDA in the Assembly Elections. But in truth, Bihar has always been a place of important since the origin of human being on the earth. The founder of Buddhism Gautam Buddha spent his life in the Bodhgaya
region of Bihar, and even attended enlightenment there under a Banyan Tree. Bodhgaya is the most sacred place for followers of Buddhism and visited by millions of believes every year.

History of Bihar

The powerful Mauryas and Gupta dynasties, the Muslim rulers Muhammad Bin Bakhtiar Khilji, the Mughals and many other mighty rulers including the Emperor Ashoka has ruled from the land of Bihar. The state has also been the birthplace of the tenth and the last Guru of Sikhism, Guru Gobind Singh. A historically rich land, the Bihar is evolving since centuries but still retains the old charm. You will find a unique fervor in the soil of Bihar, and its simple and friendly inhabitants will impress you a lot.

Bihar Now – After India’s Independence

The status of Bihar after the independence of India in 1947 is more or less same. About 63 years have passed since the independence of India but in the name of development Bihar has witnessed only backwardness in almost every field such as education, employment, health and nutrition, infrastructure and communication. In fact, it can be said that Bihar and development goes in opposite direction that led to mass migration of people for past a couple of decades to Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and other parts of country.

Laloo and Co’s Governance

Now the question, who is responsible for the dismal position of Bihar. There is not just a single line answer for all this. There are so many factors behind this including the negligence of the Central and the state government. The condition of Bihar become worst during the 15 year regime of Laloo Prasad Yadav headed Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). The period from 1990 to 2005 was nothing less than a nightmare for people of Bihar, as the state was pushed into backfoot by Laloo Prasad Yadav and his in-competent governance.

However, the sun rises for all and Bihar had seen a sun in the form of Nitish Kumar led NDA government. In the last 5 years from 2005 to 2010 that state has witnessed development in various sectors. Not at a fast pace, but the state knew something related to development and the people voted back Nitish Kumar to power with a fresh hope and expectations in the coming 5 years. Hence, the period from 2010 to 2011 is going to be very crucial for Bihar in many perspectives. It’s upto Nitish Kumar how he meets the expectations of Bihari People.
