Rail movement begins on Kishanganj – Thakurganj – Siliguri Section

Kishanganj, Tuesday ( July 19, 2011): After a long wait the train movement started between Kishanganj and Siliguri via Aluabari & Thakurganj. The inaugural journey of Haldibari – Siliguri – Katihar Fast passenger (15716) pleased the people of Thakurganj and other halts of the rail section. The train reached to Thakurganj Railway Station at 2.40 pm and was welcomed by thousands of locals along with the officials of Thakurganj Block headquarters.

Thakurganj Passenger Organisation member Engineer Sekharchand Aggarwal expressed the happiness by offering garland and sweets to Station Master B.N. Kumar. While, other people offered sweets to the driver and guard of the special train. As per the railway source, the first ticket for this train was purchased by the vendor Sanjit Kumar Sahni.

Interestingly, the ticket fare for Thakurganj to Aluabari is only Rs. 3 and the fare between Thakurganj and Kishanganj is mere Rs. 6. It should be noted that the train movement on Kishanganj – Thakurganj – Siliguri route was closed since the year August 16, 2009 as the rail bridge over Valasan River was damaged. The Fast Passenger will run towards Siliguri daily from Katihar Juction at 5.45 am, and it will be return back to Katihar from Siliguri at 9.30 pm in the night.
