Patna Marathon scheduled on Feb 26 postponed due to Matric Exam

The much-awaited Patna Marathon scheduled on February 26, 2012 is postponsed by the organiser due to ongoing Matric Exam in the state. The security officials denied to provide assistance for the marathon that was supposed to be participated by over lakh of people.

Below is the Press Release circulated by the organiser.

We had a meeting with representatives from various departments of Patna district administration on 23-Feb-2012 in which it was stated that over 1.5 lakh students are expected on Sun, 26-Feb-2012. These students would be at several examination centres in Patna to attend various entrance and board examinations. Most of the examination centres fall under the designated marathon route.

The Patna district administration expressed concern over traffic, safety and security of the participants, runners and athletes, students and the public in general; and have recommended the organisers to postpone the event.

Keeping this fact into consideration, Patna Marathon date has been postponed. Fresh dates will be announced after consultation and approval from the competent authorities.

We would like to thank countless volunteers for their contribution, without which a successful event of this scale is impossible.

We remain sensitive to the safety and security of our runners, volunteers and citizens of Patna and Bihar.
