All eyes were fixed on this T20 clash between the defending champions England and 2007 T20 World Cup winner India. The rop ranker in ICC T20 ranking England was having maximum odds and their challenge become more strong after trashing Afghanistan in last match by 116 runs. On the other hand, India team was looking scattered and it got a big shock after the sweating win over Afghanistan in their first game of T20 World Cup. Team India which has given an aggressive statement for their opponents that they are ready to lift the World Cup title this morning proved it right the same day. With awesome performances of Harbhajan Singh 4 for 14 in four overs, Piyush Chawla's 2 for 13 in four overs and Irfan Pathan's initial two wickets (2 for 17 in four overs), India bowled out England for 80 in 14.4 overs.
Earlier Indian Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni surprised the cricket lovers by dropping Virender Sehwag and Zaheer Khan and picking Harbhajan Singh, Piyush Chawla and Ashok Dinda in playing eleven. First surprise was to see Irfan Pathan as opening partner of Gautam Gambhir, but it ended in 2.4 overs as the Baroda all-rounder was bowled by S T Finn at his individual score of 8 leaving India at 24 for 1. Gautam Gambhir and in form Virat Kohli kept on scoring runs at fast pace and took the team's total to 80 in 10 overs. Virat Kohli fell at his individual score of 40 run (33 b, 6x4) when 10.3 over was in progress, Gautam Gambhir (45, 38 b, 5x4) was sent to pavilion by Finn in 16th over. M S Dhoni's favourite Rohit Sharma seemed to paid for his captain's confidence and played a much-needed timely knock of 55 runs in 33 balls with five fours and one six and took India to 170 for four in 20 overs.
With 170 runs in the board India was looking in comfortable position but it was too early to predict anything because in T20 even after scoring 200 runs any team can claim itself safe. Irfan Pathan provided the success to Indian team in first over the match and bowled out A D Hales in last ball of his over. In form England batsman L G Wright was next trapped by Pathan before the wicket. After losing two wickets in 16 balls, England was looking little shaky, but C Kieswetter had kept his mission continue with his punches and powerful strokes against the seamers Balaji and Dinda. However, once the spinners were introduced the rest is history. England batsmen were find struggling against the Indian spinners and they could survive upto 14.4 overs.
