Just four hours after assuming his office SP Navin Chandra Jha was transferred from Kishanganj in a dramatic manner on Friday, October 10, 2014. Sheikpura SP Rajiv Ranjan was appointed as the new SP of Kishanganj by the state government and he assumed the charge the day after. While speaking with media persons Mr. Ranjan told that the real culprit behind the Kishanganj incident would be caught and punished. Those who were found involved in spreading rumour or involved in any unlawful act would be severely punished, added the new SP.

Earlier, SP Deepak Barnwal was transferred from Kishanganj for delayed action taken by him to control the mob in the district headquarter which was turning into communal violence. Following the demand of politicians especially RJD MP Pappu Yadav the SP was transferred immediately from Kishanganj and Navin Chandra Jha was declared as new SP, who too was transferred without sighting any reason by the government.
