Late Prof Maswood Alam dies as a Legend

0
The term ‘Legend never dies, they always remain alive’ has been used time and again for great personalities who have left the world. Here I would like use the same term for my beloved Abbu (father) Late Prof Mohammed Maswood Alam Sb. who unexpectedly left for his heavenly abode on December 28, 2008. Why I rank my father as a legend, there are several valid reasons. First he was the true follower of Islam, next he always live for others, never quarrelled with others and also had the unique ability to remain cool and happy in crisis.

Born in Kadamgachi village of Katihar district on May 15, 1950. Belonging to an economically weak family, my father completed his high school from Sudhani High School with first division. At that time he secured sixth position in the then Purnia District. Next he moved to Kishanganj and completed Intermediate from Marwari College. Further he completed his graduation and post graduation in English from T.N.B College, Bhagalpur.

On 21st June 1976 he joined Nehru College Bahadurganj as a lecturer in English department. Very soon he was promoted to Reader level and became Head of the English Department as well. During his 32 year long association with Nehru College he taught around 10,000 students and even today you can find his students in almost every village of Bahadurganj area. On January 2, 2009, he had to occupy the Principal’s post, but Allah Ta’la called him to heaven, before that great day of his life.

We are highly upset and shocked over death of Prof Maswood Sb, who was not only a father, but also a friend. Despite ups and downs in his life, he made us capable of doing well in the cut-throat competitive world.

Now let me explain what happened with him. On December 28 at 11.40 am in the morning my phone rang and I accepted the call. To my utter surprise and dismay the lady on the other hand informed me ‘Mudassir your father is no more, come home as soon as possible.’ After listening the sentence, I threw my phone and cried at my fullest. My wife ran in hurry and asked me what happened. I could only say “Abbu nahin rahe” (Abbu is no more).

It was bright sunny day, my father doing his routine work. At around 11.20 after making Waduh he was going to read Qoran. But what happened with him no one could speak. When my mother came to him, he was laid on the floor and his heart got stopped. My mother cried my world is vanished, the neighbours ran as fast as they can to my home. Tears were rolling out from their eyes and no one was believing the death of healthy and cheering Prof Maswood Alam Sb. Only convincing word all were repeating, “Maswood Sb has died as a Jannati” and death can come any time.

We are two brothers and two sisters. The sudden demise of our father has created a great vacuum in our life, which can’t be filled in near future. May Allah place my Abbu to heaven and also help us out in this situation of crisis.
