Corruption gruesome reality of Kishanganj

1

We always feel proud in saying ourselves as a resident of Kishanganj district. And it’s justified too as we are connected to one of the most beautiful places on the world. Despite being an educationally and economically backward district, Kishanganj has its place in the country’s map. A Muslim dominated district, Kishanganj is one of the few places in the world where people of different religions live in perfect harmony.

However, Kishanganj has been badly attacked by the dangerous virus of corruption. It is harsh truth that corrupt people have extended their network across the district. A walk across the district headquarters or other parts of the district would provide you a better understanding of the on going corruption. Along with Police, local people are also involved in various types of illegal works.

Following are some of the examples of the corruption in Kishanganj:

Corruption in Railway Reservation
For last one decade corruption in railway reservation system has mushroomed in Kishanganj has increased at rapid rate. Presently, you can find hundreds of unauthorised ticket agents who offer train reservation by charging a huge amount. Sadly, you will hardly find tickets from the reservation counter. In fact, a big network is working behind the illegal reservation system that include reservation staffs of Kishanganj stations, T.T.Es and and unauthorised agents. Generally they reserve tickets in advance with some common name like S. Alam, Taskir, Mujib and Sajjad. When people don’t find tickets on reservation counter for any particular date, the agents easily provide the tickets on different passenger name. People don’t care about rules and regulations and pay Rs. 100 to Rs. 200 extra and buy reservation tickets. According to rules of Indian Railways travelling on someone else name is illegal, but people don’t thick twice to buy such tickets. Sometimes TTEs nab such passengers during the journey and demand whooping money. As we know, how much Indian Railway TTEs are honest, most of the time they leave the passengers by taking Rs. 100 to Rs. 500 or more as bribe. I think local authority especially DM Kishanganj hould take strong action such touts and stop illegal activities.

Rangdari
Rangdari (extortion) is another major corruption that is flourishing in Kishanganj since a long time. Police, political goons and criminals are involved in Rangdari on a huge scale. Rangdari in Kishanganj flourishes every where, from Bus Stand, Railway Station to Markets. Every day, bus or other public vehicle owners, vegetable sellers or other businessmen pay a huge amount to Rangdars to do business in Kishanganj. Like railway reservation, Rangdari is also affecting common people badly and the district administration should take strong action against the rangdars.

Corruption in Education
I feel very sad to say corruption in Education, but it happens in Kishanganj. There are several government run primary and middle schools in Kishanganj district. Only few schools offer proper education to the students and most of them fufill paper formalities. In fact, the headmasters and teachers are focussing more on Khichdi (Mid-Day Meal) rather than offering education to students. Along with attending less classes, usually headmasters and teachers of schools do Khichdi scam. The huge funds in the name of school building construction are also taken away by the headmasters by unfair means. All the government schools in Kishanganj are monitored by the BEO (Block Education Officer), who himself remains a part of corruption.

On the whole, our DM Feraq Ahmad should take strong action against the corrupt people and set free the district from the clutch of corruption.

  1. Truely speaking you are doing the best job for KNE..
You are making aware of every thing regarding KNE.
The corruption in railway counter is the biggest problem faced by the public however no one is going forwared to raise their voice.Innocent people are trapped by the TTE and TC in journy and charged extra money, while people already heve to pay 200 or 300 extra to the agent(Truely speaking dalal). So Kishanganj authority must take legal action on it,Specialy DM,SP, Political leaders and social workers.
