15 child labourers from Kishanganj rescued in Delhi

Fifteen child labourers were today rescued from several zari and embroidery units in the city during raids by a team of police and Delhi Government officials, who were assisted by members of an NGO.The children hailing from Kishanganj in Bihar were rescued from Haiderpur area of Shalimar Bagh in North West Delhi, a Labour department official said.

The children have now been kept at Child Home, which is a child care house run by the Social Welfare department of the Delhi Government.The official said the raids were conducted following a tip off by the NGO Prayas which has been engaged in rescuing child labourers in the city.He said the employers of the child labourers would be prosecuted under the Child Labour Act 1988.
