AMU Centre Bihar Movement intensifies on Facebook

1
Facebook has turned out as one of the most powerful social website that allows its users to do various activities including an excellent platform to raise the voice at a large scale. The proposed AMU (Aligarh Muslim University) study centre in Kishanganj district of Bihar is badly trapped in political glitches and the fate of the centre is dwindling.

A group named as AMU Centre Bihar Movement was created on Facebook by Md. Mudassir Alam, a local resident of Kishanganj on behalf of thousands of people who are continuously giving their efforts to make the dream of the centre a reality.

The description of AMU Centre Bihar Movement on Facebook says, “ AMUCentreBihar Movement is a movement run by a group of people belonging to state of Bihar and nearby states of Jharkhand and West Bengal. The group has been formed with the sole motive to make the proposal of AMU (Aligarh Muslim University) study centre in Kishanganj, Bihar a reality. However, the Bihar Government is showing no interest to grab the opportunity to establish the study centre of a Central University, Aligarh Muslim University. Working under the guidelines of AMU Old Boys and concerned people of Bihar, this group is trying its best to solve the land transfer issue on immediate basis. We invite all to join us for the noble cause of AMU Study Centre in Kishanganj, Bihar that would be very beneficial for all sects of Bihar in the field of education that would also generate huge employment opportunities and many other positive things.”

Initially the group was formed as AMU Centre Kishanganj Co-ordination committee in Delhi under the supervision of Coordinator Mohammad Aslam, and joined by around 100 members. The group met up with ruling NDA government’s key ally JD(U) chief Sharad Yadav, and leaders like Monazir Hussain (MP from Begusarai constituency, Bihar), LJP Chief Ram Vilas Paswan, and even written a memorandum to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. In between, the group frequently remained in touch with AMU VC Prof P K Abdul Azis to retain the proposal, unless many other states including Assam was asking to transfer the Kishanganj centre as it was not getting land from Bihar government.

Later on, after putting lots of effort for the group made its presence on Facebook, and started with around 100 members. The new members were adding up with every passing day to the group and sharing the ideas and views for AMU centre in Kishanganj, Bihar. However, a chain reaction happened this week. In just 5 days, record around 1000 new members joined the group AMU Centre Bihar Movement on Facebook. Interestingly, on an average 20 new members are joining the group every hour. And the group members are expecting to reach the number 5000 in a week or two.

Nitish led NDA government which has spent over 400 crores for publicity of his party and its achievement, could not hand over the 243 acres land located near Chakla Village in the outskirts of district headquarters. The group questions the intention of Nitish Kumar and his stand towards the proposed AMU centre in Kishanganj. The same Nitish government allotted 400 acres to the proposed Nalanda University, but the same government failed to provide encroachment free 250 acres to AMU administration. In fact, the land was illegally encroached by the tribals on the guidelines of some political leaders just to create the hurdle before the development issue. The NDA government of Bihar failed to remove those 50 to 60 huts of the tribals and handover the controversy free land to AMU VC.

The group comprises of very active members including people from Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal other states of India including people residing in overseas. There is no any bar of caste or religion as well, and all the members have come forward for a noble cause to set up the AMU centre in Bihar that is getting delayed due to negligence of the state government. Hope, the Bihar Government will wake up after seeing the online movement on Facebook and would solve the land transfer issue on immediate basis.
