After opposing the proposal of Union HRD (Human Resource & Development) Minister Kapil Sibal for new selection criteria for IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) Joint Entrance Test (JEE) it seems now the Government of Bihar has tried its stand. Now as per authentic sources the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) is planning to introduce completely objective papers in Class 12th Exam from next year.

As per the new guidelines accepted by IITs of the country now the top 20% students in Class 12 from different school boards including Bihar Board will be eligible to appear in the IIT JEE. Besides this, those appearing in AIEEE the board results will also be crucial as it could have weightage of 40%. The ministry of HRD at Centre has said that the new norms would ensure more fairness in the examination and evaluation process.

The new proposals have forced Bihar School Examination Board to work out a mechanism for fair examination and above board evaluation. Talking to media Bihar Board Chairman Rajmani Prasad Sinha said, “I have submitted a proposal for fully objective tests to minimize human errors or chances of manipulation in evaluation”. Further Sinha added, ‘the number of questions will be on the higher side with limited time. This will work as a deterrent for those reporting to unfairness. They will waste time searching for answers.”

In the year 2012 a total number of 3,47,738 students appeared in Class 12 (Science) Examination and 3,14,198 passed. In PCM (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) the number of candidates was 2,98,753 and the number of successful candidates was 2,76, 099. The number of top 20% of the successful candidates was 62068 out of which a whopping 36, 042 came from unaided institutions. The new trend was attributed to performance linked incentive for unaided colleges with different slabs for first, second and third divisioners. While the topper got 460 marks (92%) the 20% Bihar Board cut off was 329 marks out of 500 (65.8%).
