People of Purnia Division have a reason to smile, as Katihar Medical College (KMC) has been allowed to increase its annual intake from currently existing 60 to 100 by Medical Council of India (MCI). Although the state of Bihar is failed to get the MCI nod to increase undergraduate seats in state run medical colleges for the academic session 2012-13, but the total intake has been increased by 290 seats as compared to overall tally of 950 seats for MBBS. The increase in number of undergraduate seats is happened due to addition of three private and one Central government driven medical college (Jayaprakash Narayan AIIMS) in Bihar.
