Taking a big tech (internet) related initiative the Government of Bihar has made all the reports of functioning of Anganwadi centres also known as Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) online in its website www.icdsbih.gov. Bihar has become the first state in India to implement internet based reporting of ICDS functioning. Nitish Kumar led NDA government has established a data centre at the ICDS state headquarters to facilitate the reports. Around 65 lakh children, 23 lakh adolescents and 13 lakh pregnant or lactating mothers are being covered under the various ICDS programmes running in the state of Bihar.

Now the report of Bihar ICDS functioning is just a click away affair. Just visit the ICDS website where the monthly reports of the centres entered at the concerned offices of the child development projects officers (CDPO). You have to enter few keywords to find details like distribution of ‘take homeration’, implementation of other schemes and other details. Currently the online facility covers 60,603 centres out of the total existing 80,000 in Bihar. The online system carries e-dak software that helps to instantly send letters and communiqués to CDPOs. The software will help the public to access all letters issued by the department.

Talking to media persons in Patna, social welfare minister Parveen Amanullah said “the reports of two surveys of angandwadi centre including the one conducted with the help of DFID (Department of International Development) conducted this year have revealed that only 46 percent centres open daily. The presence of children at the centres that open is low. On an average 24 out of 46 children come to a centre.”  Furthe she added, “ Our quest to improve the implementation of welfare scheme continues. We hope to improve it further by next year. The department has relieved 1,593 anganwadi sevikas, while three CDPOs have been dismissed, 35 are under suspension and 20 others face punishments. Similarly, departmental proceedings are going on against lady supervisors.”
