Adhikar Yatra reaches Kishanganj! Nitish slams Centre for delay in AMU

The much ambitious ‘Adhikar Yatra’ of Nitish which is witnessing wide criticism reached to the district of Kishanganj on Saturday. Chief minister Nitish Kumar was in the district headquarters of Kishanganj as per his schedule much-talked about ‘Adhikar Yatra’ on Saturday (Sept 29, 2012). On Sunday (September 30, 2012). After facing severe oppose from the contract teachers and common people at Begusarai and Khagaria, Nitish Kumar got a shy of relief in Kishanganj. Nitish Kumar addressed a gathering dominated by his party workers at Khagra stadium. Stung by massive protests, a somehow dejected Nitish slammed Opposition parties for allegedly orchestrating the stir to ‘sabotage’ his campaign to demand special status for Bihar.

In his address to gathering the Bihar CM said, “They are unable to digest my Adhikar Yatra’ and have tried repeatedly to sabotage the campaign by instigating protests against me.” I was ‘unfazed’ and the Adhkhar Yatra would help add to huge numbers of Biharis who would carry the stir to the Centre and force it to accede to the demand of changing the norms, if that needed.

Further he added, “People must realize that if Bihar wins, it will help youths get employment, industrial entrepreneurshipo will flow and add to jobs, and it will act as a stimulant to fast-track development works for the overall development of Bihar. The development of Bihar is key to its emergence as a state, which will power India to global al eminence and make it an economic giant tomorrow.”

The CM of Bihar issued a strong message to detractors not to impede the common cause and his fight to end the decades old injustice perpetrated on Bihar. He had also tried to strike a chord with the locals by raising the issue of delay in construction of the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) branch in Kishanganj. Referring to the AMU branch, Kumar criticised the central government for dilly-dallying over the project and also criticised those who had held demonstration over non-allotment of land and other matters to speed track the project a few years ago. Now when the 224.02 acres land is transferred to AMU, I wonder why the construction is delayed?

He had also shared about his forthcoming tour to Pakistan that a delegation from neighbouring country had recently visited Bihar and extended him an invitation. There was tight security at the venue in light of the recent protests witnessed during the Adhikar Yatra in Kosi and Khagaria belt. People coming to the ground were strictly checked by the security personals, hence the gathering was smaller. The CM also reviewed the progress of development schemes carried out across the district of Kishanganj.

After finishing his public address, Kumar left for Kochadhaman block to inspect the sites where ONGC (Oil and Natural Gas Commission) has been prospecting for gas reserves. He has also discussed the progress with the senior officials of ONGC. Earlier in the day the teachers of the district were asked to report at Cluster Resources Centre (CRC). However, the teacher’s association here has vehemently opposed the directive of the administration and protested at many places. At the same time, Araria contract teachers association has declared that it will go to court against the order of the district administration by which they were asked to report at their respective schools on the occasion of Anant Chaturdasi, a holiday.
