Hiked Railway Passenger fare effective from today, pay for fare difference during travel

0

The Ministry of Railways January 11, 2013 decision to revise passenger fares came into effect on midnight of 22nd January 2013. The passenger fares have been hiked across all classes namely, Second Class Ordinary (Suburban), Second Class Ordinary (Non-Suburban), Second Class (Mail / Express), Sleeper Class, AC Chair Car, AC 3-Tier, First Class, AC 2-Tier and AC First Class. However, there is a confusion regarding the fare hike on existing reserved tickets booked before the pre-revised rates. Let me clarify the doubt, the railway passengers who have booked ticket earlier to 22nd January, 2013 need to pay the extra amount during their travel.

See the screenshot below for a ticket booked earlier and the passenger is going to travel on January 25, 2013

As per guidelines of Ministry of Railways in case of tickets already issued at pre-revised rates before midnight of 22nd January, 2013, it should be ensured that the difference in fares and other charges are recovered on or after 22.01.2013 by TTEs on the trains or by the Booking / Reservation Offices before the commencement of journey by passengers.
