After being referred as “Institution of Excellence” by Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram during his budget speech on Feb 28, 2013, the prestigious Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Aligarh has added another feather in its cap. UK (United Kingdom) based Times Higher Education magazine, (THE), for the first time in its latest World Reputation Rankings for 2013 has released an India top-10 list that includes AMU at 9th position.

According to Times Higher Education magazine India Reputation Rankings, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, is in the first position, followed by IIT Bombay, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), IIT Kanpur and IIT Delhi respectively. The University of Delhi takes the sixth place — the first full-fledged university on the list. Followed by IIT Madras (7), IIT Kharagpur (8), Aligarh Muslim University (9) and University of Hyderabad (10)

THE World University Rankings, are based on subjective, but expert judgement of senior, published academics. However, globally, not a single Indian institution has made it to the top 100 of the 'World Reputation Rankings 2013.' While Harvard University tops the list, it is followed by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, University of California, Berkeley and Stanford University.

Founded by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan in 1875, the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) is getting worldwide recognition due to academic excellence of students in various fields including professional and regular courses. If the students and teachers of the university keep the momentum up with contemporary education, the AMU can expect much higher ranking and more-and-more recognition.
