The Vice Chancellor has launched a drive to popularize cycling within the University campus following the ban on motorcycles in all residential boys hostels of the University.

AMU VC trying to revive Bicycle in campus
Bicycling had traditionally been the main mode of transport within the University campus till the 1980s. However, the use of motorbikes and scooters increased in a big way inside the University campus after this period. In a statement today, the University spokesman said that with the objective of reviving the past tradition of AMU and promoting a green campus, AMU Vice Chancellor has decided to commute on a bicycle within the University campus.

The Vice Chancellor Gen. Shah said that in most western countries, especially the United States of America, there has been a major revival in the use of a bicycle in all the leading universities. This, he said, was a very healthy trend and deserved to be emulated in different universities in the country. The Vice Chancellor said that the drive for use of cycles had twin objectives, primarily for economizing the funds and also for promoting cycling as a healthy exercise.
