BJP candidate from Kishanganj parliamentary constituency, Dilip Kumar Jaiswal (MLC), was booked with four others after the police seized over Rs 97,000 from a campaign vehicle at Dighalbank on Tuesday. Additional chief electoral officer R Lakshmanan said the cash was seized by the flying squad deployed there. Though Jaiswal was not present in the vehicle, there was enough evidence pointing his involvement in it, he added. On Wednesday, a case was registered against them with the Dighalbank police station under different sections of IPC and Representation of the People Act, 1951, for violating the model code of conduct. The four others who were in the vehicle are Ziaul Haq, Mahboob Alam, Dhirendra Pandit and Ravindra Kumar.

Kishanganj DM Aditya Kumar Das told that the four persons in the campaign vehicle were caught distributing money among the locals. They were arrested. Since the campaign material, including handbills, recovered from the vehicle were of the BJP candidate, the cops took them as Jaiswal's supporters.

On the possible fallout, Lakshmanan said Jaiswal may face the music if convicted by the competent court. Replying to a query regarding future course of action, he said the law will take its own course adding that the local authorities were competent enough to pursue the case as per the book.

An Election Commission official deployed to oversee election in Kishanganj, while appreciating the efforts of law enforcing authorities, said the district administration promptly took up the issue and no candidate or his supporters would be allowed to use money power to woo the voters.
