The Congress candidate from Kishanganj received record number of votes thanks to the last time exit of Janata Dal (United) candidate Akhtarul Imaan, who claimed that in order to defeat the communal forces he had taken the decision. Although Akhtarul Imaan left the battle but interestingly he got a total of 55822 votes. The political analysts are sighting the exit of Akhtarul Imaan as the reason behind Maulana's record win.
