This new year 2015 brings a very unfamiliar restriction for the people of Kishanganj, as the district administration has decided to totally ban use of polythene bags in the district headquarter. In fact, during a press conference in early December the District Magistrate (DM) Animesh Kumar Parashar said that the decision has been keeping in view the 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan'. Briefing reporters about the decision, the DM said strict action would be taken against shopkeepers and polythene bag manufacturers if such materials were found in Kishanganj district from January 1. Mr. Parashar said the district administration would simultaneously take effective measures to ensure cleanliness in Kishanganj town and surrounding areas from next month. The area falling under Nagar Parishad has been divided into eight zones and a dedicated team of officials deputed to ensure cleanliness in the town on daily basis, mentioned the district magistrate.

Polythene ban in Kishanganj |
The decision of Kishanganj District Administration certainly deserve plaudits as it is good step towards making an eco-friendly environment. However, in context to Kishanganj and the lifestyle of people it seems a daunting task for stopping from using the polythene bags. When it comes to awareness the condition is very pathetic in Kishanganj and lack of quality education is a major reason behind this. In fact, the drive for banning polythene bags have been launched in many cities of the country including metros like Delhi, Mumbai, etc. but it couldn't achieve desired results. Hope the drive become a success in Kishanganj and the district set a benchmark for other places of the country. It can be possible only with the positive participation of citizens and understanding of their responsibility towards an eco-friendly environment.
