AMU Vice-Chancellor meets Minister of HRD, seeks fund for the University

A three-member delegation of the Aligarh Muslim University, led by the Vice Chancellor Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah met the Union Human Resource Development Minister Smt. Smriti Irani in her office today. The other members of the delegation included Pro-Vice Chancellor Brig. S. Ahmad and Registrar Dr. Asfar Ali. The Vice Chancellor presented a copy of the memorandum to Smt. Irani, which he presented to the Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi on March 5.Lt. Gen. Shah apprised the Minister of the grim financial condition of the three AMU Centres in Kerala, West Bengal and Bihar and urged her to provide adequate funds for the long drawn development projects.




On Smt. Irani pointing out that no research work was being carried away at the three AMU Centres, the Vice Chancellor told her that research work will also begin once the necessary funds are made available. Smt. Irani urged the Vice Chancellor to Meet Joint Secretary, MHRD, Mr. S. S. Sandhu, who was also present in the meeting. Mr. Sandhu assured the AMU delegation that the funds approved by the Expenditure Finance Committee (EFC) will be made available to the University soon.

Kunwar Bhartendra Sing and Mr. Satish Kumar Gautam, Members of Parliament from Bijnor and Aligarh, respectively, who are also the members of the AMU Court, the supreme governing body of the University, remained present in the meeting. The AMU delegation also met the Minister of State, Prime Minister's Office, Dr. Jitendra Singh and briefed him about his meeting with the Union HRD Minister. Lt. Gen. Shah said, "I am quite satisfied with the meeting and hope that the Ministry will take up AMU related issues in a positive manner".
