International Women’s Day: Let us vow for welfare of Women in Kishanganj & World

0
Maa (mother), Aapa, Baji or Didi (sister) and Betterhalf (wife) all these words have similarity as they are linked with Almighty’s greatest creation Woman. Keeping in mind the importance of Woman in the society the world celebrates one special day every year dedicated to Woman as International Women’s Day. Like past this year too March 8, 2010 (Monday) is celebrated worldwide as Women’s Day.

But sadly in this ultra-modern world, still we come across news of woman harassment, female foeticide, death of women in the name of dowry, etc. Although in our district Kishanganj the cases of woman harassment rarely come into notice, but still we observe step attitude of males towards females. Generally most of the parents are son-centric and provide less value to girl child and don’t care much about education, health, and proper development of girls.

Simply, girls are considered as Paraya Dhan (Other’s property) so most of the parents only think how to get rid off the girl children by marrying them to a groom (without caring much about the perfect match, age-difference and other essential things like education and source of income).

As per government statistics only 18 per cent of girls are educated in Kishanganj. And sadly Kishanganj has the least girl literacy in India. Of course, the mindset is changing now but we need to be more active and tell the people about the importance of education in girls and their contribution to the society. Last but not the least, only by managing the balance between boys and girls we can expect development in Kishanganj and the world alike.

On International Women’s Day, we should take a vow to respect girls and their sentiments. Besides this, we should also come forward to change the age-old mindset of our elders.
