The 27 cases of impersonation were detected while identifying the candidates by using 'biometric system' at the time of admission by the university admission section. Using this technology, the University authorities were able to detect any discrepancy in the photographs and thumb impressions of the applicants who appeared in the admission test and those who were later found seeking admission.

In response, the Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, Lt. General (Retired) Zameer Uddin Shah has said that the University was taking this matter 'very seriously'. He said that the University would pursue the cases with the police so as to set an example for the future.

Prof. Hamid Ali, Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology said that the Committee constituted by the Vice Chancellor to this effect, decided to deny admission to these candidates for using unfair means in the admission test for B. Tech. course in the Faculty of Engineering and Technology.

More than 42 thousand applicants had appeared in admission test held on May 20, 2012 at Aligarh, Lucknow, Kolkata, Bhopal, Hyderabad, Kozhikode and Srinagar. The University finally admits 292 students in Engineering College.
