Thakurganj and Pothia blocks battling with flood! No assistance from administration

0
The monsoon has once again opened the loopholes in tall claims made by the State government and Centre. The flood in border areas of Kishanganj has once again pointed towards the need for Mahananda Besin Project on immediate basis. The heavy rains for past few days in the district of Kishanganj had caused heavy flood in Thakurganj and Pothia blocks. The sorrow of Purnia Division, Mahananda River has become over-flooded and affected dozens of villages. The water level of Mahanda River has crossed the danger mark. The condition is same with other rivers namely, Kankai, Chenga and Pawna.

Flood water entered into a school premises at Thakurganj

Lives of more than 50 thousand population and their livestock in extreme danger in these blocks. All the government schools have been closed and people have migrated towards the safer places. At the meantime, the District administration of Kishanganj has not taken any step for providing relief to flood affected areas. In fact, the Circle Officer (CO) Thakurganj Manoj Kumar has clearly denied for possibility of any help from the administration. The officer said that only after the flood crosses 72 hours timeline, the affected people can expect for assistance from the administration.

The statement of Thakurganj CO has disappointed the flood-affected people and they are in extreme horrifying condition as it is raining continuously. It should be noted that the rivers in Thakurganj and Pothia blocks are connected to Mechi River of Nepal. It is raining in Nepal for past few days and the Mechi River is over-flooded. There are fair chances that Nepal will release water in Indian rivers in next few days that may worsen the flood condition in bordering areas of Kishanganj.

Before closing I will put a question before all. Who cares for the flood-affected areas of Kishanganj? The State or Centre government? In the lucre responses of State and Centre I can say no ONE. The Mahananda Basin Project was proposed during UPA I in the year 2005 to connect the rivers of Kishanganj district so that flood condition can be minimized. However, more than 7 years have passed the Mahananda Basin Project is yet to get a shape. Although, Kishanganj MP Maulana Asrarul Haque had spoken about the project many times, but he failed to sync up the Centre and State governments to implement the project.
