AMU VC Zameeruddin Shah visits Kishanganj, assures to start session from this year

AMU Vice Chancellor Lt Gen (Retd) Zameeruddin Shah has paid a visit to Kishanganj on Monday in connection with the proposed Centre of the university in the north-eastern district of Bihar. Lt. Shah was accompanied by Prof Javaid Akhtar, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) for AMU centres and Human Chain team from Delhi comprising of Mohammad Aslam, Parwez Mohammad, Tauquir Alam, Manazir Ahsan and Salman Akhtar. This was first visit of Lt. Shah to Kishanganj after he assumed the charge as AMU Vice Chancellor last year and given fresh hope to lakhs of people residing in the district and neighbouring areas. 



The AMU VC along with officials from district administration visited the 224.02 acres land, which had been given by govt of Bihar in December 2011. Mr. Shah expressed his satisfaction after inspecting the AMU Kishanganj site and praises the district administration for undergoing plantation work across the boundary under MNREGA scheme. He has asked the District Magistrate Aditya Kumar Das to construct the approach road and fulfill other requirements like electric power substation and water treatment plant. 

Mr. Shah has also visited the Minority hostel of government of Bihar and discussed the possibilities of starting the session from this year with district magistrate. He said that the minority hostel can be used on temporary basis for classes and hostel accommodation till the construction finishes on the actual site of AMU. The Vice Chancellor said, AMU is keen to start area relevant job oriented courses such as polytechnics and other vocational courses subject to assistance from the government of Bihar and sanction of money from the UGC.

Further he said, we could start classes in Mallapuram and Murshidabad with the active participation of the state governments, which provided support like approach road, provision for electricity and water, etc. Mallapuram Centre also provided rent free furnished buildings for holding classes till we completed our construction. We are sure that the government of Bihar will provide the same facilities and facilitate speedy commencement of the work. 

Mohammad Aslam, President Human Chain said, “We are thankful to AMU Vice Chancellor for his visit to Kishanganj and inspecting the site of proposed Centre. The vice chancellor has given positive feedback about Kishanganj Centre land, hence we can expect the start of session from this year if the technicalities like DPR / DFR are prepared within two to three months.” Human Chain core team members namely Mujahid Akhtar Naaz, Tarique Sufyan, Khalid Mubashshir, Minnat Rahmani, Naseem Haider, Salam Anwar, Mumtaz Naiyer, Khaiyam Akhtar, Tauqueer Alam (JMI), Ghulam Tarique, Najeeb Sagar, Shah Azam, Dilshad Alam, Nawaid Shamshi, Ghaznafar Elahi, Sarwar Alam among many others have welcomed the visit of AMU VC to Kishanganj

It should be noted the process to open Kishanganj Center has gained momentum with the promise of Hon’ble Minister for HRD to allocate funds for preparation of DPR. The Union Human Resources Development Ministry has promised to sanction Rs 30 lakh to AMU to prepare DPR (Detailed Project Report) of the new campus. After getting the DPR, the HRD ministry will need to allocate Rs. 30 crore for construction of the new campus as indicated to the Hon’ble HRD Minister.
