A family in Rahmatpara village put under ‘House Arrest’ by Panchayat Election candidate for not voting

‘House Arrest’ sounds little awkward and unbelievable for Kishanganj but this is true happened at Rahmat Para (earlier known as Dakopara) village in Kochadhaman Police Station (Block). Especially such cases are hardly noticed in any part of the country especially in Kishanganj. If the report of a leading newspaper believed Mohibul Haque and his family including cattle are kept under house-arrest for past a couple of years. Actually a boundary wall is erected at the exit / entrance gate of Mohibul Haque’s house by the owner of land H Rahman, which was only the way for victim’s family.

 Mohibul Haque is suffering due to his enmity with Mohammad Mujammil, a candidate for Panchayat Election. Mujammil was confident that he will win elections and Mohibul’s family would vote for him. However, he lost election and predicted that the family of Mohibul had not voted for him. In revenge, Mujammil convinced H Rahman by hook and crook, and agreed him to erect a wall on the land that was used by Mohibul’s family as passage.

Now, the family comprises of 12 members is not able to move freely from their house. The children are not able to attend school, neither they play with other children in the village. The family had appealed the administration for a solution of the problem, which has made their lives hell but no action is taken yet. This is really a big question mark over the democracy, where the voters are punished for using their voting rights as per their wish.
