The district headquarters of Kishanganj comes under extreme shock and anger over the molestation of a 10 year girl in the heart of town at Churipatti chowk. As per officials the girl was allegedly molested by a shopkeeper on Wednesday evening (June 5, 2013) when she went to the adjoining colony for purchasing milk. After molesting the girl the alleged culprit threatened her not to reveal the incident to anyone unless she would be killed. However, the family of girl came to know about the incident and informed the police about same.

On Thursday the situation in Churtipatti and adjoining areas was highly tensed for the entire day. The irate crowd gathered at Churipatti Chowk and attacked the home and shop of the culprit. Top officials from Kishanganj Police Station were present at the spot, which included Sub Inspector Amit Kumar and Sub Inspector Santosh Nirala. Entire area was cordoned off by police forces to bring the situation under control. The shop of the culprit was closed by the police in order to bring normalcy. The house of the culprit was raided by police, however he fled away from the spot. The Superintendent of Police (SP) Manoj Kumar also reached to Churipatti late night and said that the culprit is arrested.
Special arrangements have been made by District Administration to avoid any chaos, mentioned the SP. The girl was sent to hospital under supervision of district administration for medical check-up.
This shameful incident has come as a shock for the people of town as it has happened in prime location. Parents of the town are concerned towards the safety of their children since the administration failed to stop such incident in heart of the city. This is also a big question over the characteristic of the town which is know for women safety.
