AMU Centre at Kishanganj to begin later this year, says Vice Chancellor

The much awaited Kishanganj centre of the Aligarh Muslim University will soon become a reality. Later this year,a course in B.Ed. is expected to begin, according to the Vice-Chancellor of the AMU. In an exclusive interview with the TwoCircles.net, Vice Chancellor of AMU, Lieutenant General Zameerud-din Shah said that within two months the Kishanganj centre should be functional with a course in Bachelors in Education, latest by November. “In Kishanganj centre, we are straightaway going start a course in B.Ed. this year. It may start a little late, by October or November,” said Lt. Gen. Shah in an exlclusive interview to TCN.

He added that the Central Government is very keen to have the inauguration of the centre and we are working towards it, and I think, we should very soon be able to start. On the question of AMU centres evolving into full fledged Unviersity and fear over its minority character, Lt. Gen. Shah said that he has been assured by the Ministry of Minority Affairs that its “minority character will be taken care of,” and hence has no problem as such.

He further added that these centres have yet not been given due shares of funds, but when they become universities, the Maulana Azad Foundation, under whom the universities will function, they will be able to get larger grants which will benefit education in general to a great degree, specially in minority dominated pockets. As he completed 15 months in office, Lt. Gen. Shah was had a detailed conversation with TCN about his achievements, his vision and his shortcomings.
