Today in the early morning when my phone rang to inform me that Ustad Kazim Afroz Saheb left us forever, the news turned me into a bundle of shock and disbelief. For a moment my ears got numbed as I could not believe in what I was being told. How could someone I met during my last visit to India, who looked so fresh and full of life, leave us in such a shocking manner. My conversation with him is still fresh to my senses, as if it happened yesterday. With much difficulty I mustered up courage to log on to Face-book and write a few words, still in shock and disbelief.

It is as much a personal loss to me. I owe Kazim Sir a lot for what I am today is because of him. During my school days, his relentless effort guided and inspired me. While teaching mathematics, the subject I used to find most difficult, he would not relent until I understood the problem completely.
Kazim sb was a simple and very down to earth person. He would share the same lifestyle with us: same food, same accommodation and same playground. He would personally take us to the doctor in case of illness. He was so kind to us that he would even make effort in solving the financial problems of students.

All through his life Kazim Saheb remained away from all sorts of limelight and photo ops. At Hamara School his entire focus was on giving quality school life to children. It did not matter to him that his efforts and the outcome were being covered by the media or not.

Kazim Saheb was one who worked day and night to educate the children who lived a downtrodden life, mostly rural children, and that too without seeking anything for himself, not even self glory. He was a true down to earth leader who worked relentlessly with conviction and selfless attitude.

Kazim sahib, you will always remain in our heart and continue to inspire and guide us. Your selfless service in the field of education will be remembered forever. Your simple and down to earth approach will always guide us. You may have left this mortal world but your work will speak for itself for generations to come. Sir I was fortunate to have you in my life. We will keep moving on the path you have shown us. Insha Allah.
