Member of Parliament (MP) Mr. Asaduddin Owaisi met Union Minister of Human Resource Development (MHRD) Shri Prakash Javadekar with the request to release of funds for Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Centres at Kishanganj (Bihar), Murshidabad (West Bengal) and Mallapuram (Kerala). In the letter addressed to Hon'ble HRM dated 19.12.2017, the President of AIMIM urged for immediate release of funds for these centres.
The letter reads as "
Dear Sir,
As you are undoubtedly aware, the University Grants Commission (UGC) audit report on Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) suggests that there is little justification to support the off-campus centres of the varsity in Kishanganj, Mallapuram and Murshidabad. I would like to put forward my strongest objection to this position taken by the UGC and demand that the same be reconsidered by the government.
The three centres mentioned above have a substantial population with no access to good education facilities and economic opportunities. In particular, the center of Kishanganj is very socially, educationally and economically backward compared to the rest of the country. The literacy rate of Kishanganj is in fact, one of the lowest in the country in both male and female ratio.
Furthermore, there is no comparable University in the adjoining districts of AMU - Kishanganj presents the only hope for the upliftment of the population. Your government's central agenda over the past three years have been that of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas' and this project will go a long way in making this slogan a reality.
Your government itself had vide letter No. 863 / No. 14 dated 23.09.2014 agreed to allocate an amount of Rs. 136.82 crore out of which an amount of Rs. 104.23 crore was earmarked for creation of capital assets. However, only the first instalment for the same was released by the UGC subsequently.
Kindly look into the matter expeditiously and direct the concerned department to take necessary action to release rest of the funds.
